Oh, what a pleasure it is to work with an arts group! But what a challenge it can be, too, with so many different voices and styles to represent. In the case of an exhibition catalog, we take cues from the theme of the show, the setting, the works, or the artists themselves.
For 80/20, an Alabama Women's Caucus for Art group show about the gender disparity in wages, we opted to let the title itself point the way. Each page is divided into areas of 80 and 20 percent, and the colors are a riff on the pink and blue of traditional gender designations.
We worked with the exhibit curator to ensure each artist’s bio and statement adhered to catalog rules, that the supplied photos of the artwork were shown in their best light, and that all the info was up-to-date. The final artwork was uploaded for printing so the artists, and the public, could purchase their own copies of the catalog.
